because they can keep people in touch.
Or at least catch up with how people are doing recently.
(Wretch would be more like this one since it's more personal,
Facebook is rather more about socializing.

You need to explain the difference between socializing and personal.. is the boundary between the two blurring?
Socializing is more with interactions with others. For example in Facebook, you post stuff on other people's walls (kind of like a slow way of chatting), send drawings or virtual gifts, play games with them, etc.
But something more personal, is more "egocentric". Blogging services like Wretch is more about one self's life and random thoughts, published to the public internet. Like having a small personal webpage. (Remember, a homepage and a blog is still a little different. But that's another story....)
